Shabba Ranks and Super Cat, artists who helped put dancehall music on the international map during the 1990’s, are headliners for the 13th Best Of The Best show, scheduled for May 26 at Bayfront Park in Miami.

Promoters released an initial lineup that leans to artists from that decade, considered by many to be the golden age of dancehall. Frisco Kid, Round Head and General B from the Monster Shack Crew, who made their names in the ‘90’s, are confirmed for the annual event.

Roots singer Bushman and soca star Skinny Fabulous of St. Vincent and The Grenadines will also perform, according to Steven “DJ Jabba” Beckford, co-founder of Best Of The Best.

“This year, for the first time in the United States you will see Super Cat and Shabba Ranks share the same stage, marking a historical moment for dancehall and for many music lovers who have never witnessed such a show,” DJ Jabba boasted.

Shabba Ranks was largely responsible for pushing dancehall in the American mainstream in the early 1990’s when he was signed to Epic Records and won consecutive Grammy Awards in 1992 and 1993 for Best Reggae Album with As Raw As Ever and X-tra Naked.

Songs like Mr. Loverman, House Call (with Maxi Priest) and Trailer Load A Girls made him popular with hip hop fans.

Super Cat was also a hit with the emerging hip hop scene. His albums, Don Dada and Good, the Bad, the Ugly & the Crazy, released in 1992 and 1994 respectively, thrust him into the American spotlight.

They opened doors for the deejay to work with surf group Sugar Ray on their number one song Fly and rappers Kriss Kross on the remix to their hit song Jump.
