With showtime for Buju Banton’s Long Road to Freedom approximately one month away, there is reportedly a buzz in Barbados. The event takes place April 27 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, that country’s capital.

Buju Banton will be headliner, supported by Wayne Wonder, Spragga Benz and Barbadian singer Buggy Nhakente. Allison Hunte, CEO of promoters Seven Star Entertainment, said expectancy is fever-pitch.

“The anticipation for Buju is high globally, and even more now post his stellar Jamaica performance, which is making it rounds on the Internet. The Jamaica performance reassured fans that Buju is a superstar,” Hunte said.

Banton, who was released from a United States prison in December, performed in Jamaica on March 16. That show, at the National Stadium in the capital Kingston, attracted a record 35,000 fans.

His performance in Barbados is part of the Buju in Barbados Weekend, a four-day music blitz that starts April 26.

Hunte said she and her business partners Roger Hill and Al Gilkes have gone all out to ensure a spectacle similar to Jamaica at Kensington Oval. That venue is renowned for hosting memorable Test matches featuring the West Indies cricket team.

“We have been aggressively marketing to the Diaspora as well as our Caribbean neighbors. There has been much focus placed on attracting visitors to the island to experience the festival and Barbados as a tourist destination,” she said. “Since the launch (of the show), we have had heavy radio, TV, social media and PR campaigns. These campaigns, along with coordinated contest giveaways across the neighboring Caribbean islands, in association with Air Antilles and LIAT, have promoted the event well beyond the shores of Barbados.”
