The mix of dancehall and Latin music has been a profitable cocktail in the past five years, with Jamaican acts like Sean Paul and Shaggy hitting the mark in South America by collaborating with artists from that region.
Singjay Natural Vibes is the latest Jamaican to score there. He has done so through International Wine, a song with Yaco M, an American rapper of Puerto Rican heritage.
Released in February, the single is a radio hit in countries such as Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Mexico. Natural Vibes and Yaco M recently returned from Mexico where they performed on the Moto Rock Fest.
They are also scheduled to do shows in Colombia this summer.
“It’s a great feeling. We put in a lot of hard work on a great song and it’s paying off,” said Natural Vibes, who is originally from St. James, a rural parish in Jamaica.
Natural Vibes and Yaco M co-wrote the lyrics for International Wine which is produced by American Matt “Stupid Genius” Nawada.
This is the fourth collaboration between the two artists who first met seven years ago in Orlando, Florida where Natural Vibes has lived for almost 20 years.
Two of their previous songs, Wine me Gal and Fly Away, are from Born to Be Great, Natural Vibes’ debut album which was released last year by VP Records.
Those songs also incorporated the dancehall and Latin sounds the artists were raised on. Those ingredients, notes Natural Vibes, has helped International Wine attract diverse listenership.
“I think people love it because they can dance to the beat of two different cultures,” said Natural Vibes.
Yaco M and Natural Vibes have increased their promotion of international Wine. They recently filmed a video in the Dominican Republic and are fielding other dates in Latin America during the summer. Reply Reply All Forward
