Since the late 1980’s, hardcore dancehall artists have used New York City as a gateway to mainstream success in the United States. Shabba Ranks, Super Cat and Mad Cobra bit into Big Apple radio before reaching a pop audience during the early 1990’s.

Aidonia is hip to that history and is keen to follow suit. The deejay is scheduled to headline the B-Day Bash New York Edition on May 11 at Club Amazura in Queens.

“As an artist in dancehall/reggae or even hip hop and pop, New York is one of the music’s mecca and recognized globally. Everyone want to perform a New York, the city of hopes and dreams,” said Aidonia. “If you make it in New York, you make it anywhere.”

Shenseea and sound system selectors The Platinum Kids are also part of the Amazura gig. Shows at that venue usually attract audiences from New York’s diverse boroughs, another reason Aidonia is looking forward to the show.

“It’s always a joy to know sey I have such a solid and growing fan base in NY and always look forward to performing for my fans in New York ‘cause the love and energy is never normal,” he said.

The artiste is currently promoting Big Baller, a song produced by his 4th Genna Music. Big Baller was released late last year which was a strong one for the lanky toaster who also made the charts with VVS and Breeze which featured Govana.

In addition, he performed at high-profile events such as Reggae Sumfest, Magnum Explosion and Ghetto Splash.
