Looking dapper in designer clothes with close-cropped hair, singer Hymn Marley does not fit the stereotypical Marley rebel image. That’s the way he wants it to be.

The son of multi-Grammy winner Stephen Marley and grandson of reggae king Bob Marley, Hymn is currently promoting Since You’ve Been Gone, an acoustic ballad about love lost.

Released on his HYMNtertainment label and distributed by his family’s Tuff Gong International, Since You’ve Been Gone is the lead song from Hymn’s upcoming EP which will be out late this year.

“At the time of writing the song I was in a melancholy vibe so I wanted the sound to match what I was feeling. I didn’t want the message to get lost in the noise so I kept it really simple,” Hymn explained.

He added that persons who tune into the project can expect…the unexpected.

“I feel like being a Marley, people expect our sound and style to be the same. I would say my EP isn’t stuck on one sound. You’ll hear where I come from and you’ll be able to tell where I’m going,” Hymn disclosed.

Most of the musicians who worked on the EP are in a Miami band called XAXO. They are complemented by “local Miami acts.”

Born Stephan Robert Nesta Marley, the 26-year-old Hymn began recording two years ago. His first song, Bad Without You, was described by one reviewer as an “effervescent pop ballad”, produced by Ghetto Youths International, a label owned by Stephen and his brothers.

Hymn says he always listens to the music of his grandfather who died 38 years ago on May 11. There are no favorite songs or albums.

“There’s too many to choose from! It depends on my mood,” he said.
