Long before he started his recording career, singer Leosean grasped the importance of writing his own songs. He honors that vow on My Time, his recently-released EP.

The mini set contains six songs, all of which he composed. Oh Baby, a ballad, is the lead song from My Time.

“This is beneficial because I have a better connection to my songs. Whether it’s about my personal experience or things I see going on around me,” said the New York-based artist.

Originally from Spanish Town, Leosean migrated to the United States in 2008. It would be seven years before he released his first song, A Million Miles Away.

In late 2018, came the release of My Time which contains songs produced by VoiceBox Muzik, Dark Star Music and Princeton Brown.

Leosean grew up in De La Vega, a tough working-class neighborhood in Spanish Town that also produced Chronixx. The area also had a thriving sound system scene that helped develop aspiring homegrown artists.

Major Worries, Papa San and his older brother Dirtsman, Stitchie and Lady G were some of the artists who emerged from Spanish Town during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Leosean recalls his years there listening to acts like Sizzla and Mavado.

“Spanish Town is a busy place and music is always playing, no matter the time of day. This had a great influence on me, being that I was always around it,” he said.
