A man quickly walks past the tailor shop in which the ghost is said to have taken up residence.—
A dead man, known throughout Spanish Town, St Catherine, is being accused of throwing stones at persons passing his former place of work on Nugent Street in the old capital.
Residents claim that the man, who they call Tailor, died three years ago in his shop while he was having sex. They believe that his spirit resided at his former work-place, and was resting in peace, until the place from which he once operated his business was rented to someone.
Glastone Lindo, an occupant of a house close to the shop where Tailor worked for more than 30 years, says the tailor lived and died in the shop and may be throwing stones in disgust.
“Is like him did live in deh because him spend more time here than him spend at him yaad. … Mi see the door half-open, and when mi go in deh, him dead. When him wife see the way him dead and see weh him did a do, she get upset, tek di whole a di clothes from di yaad and come pack dem up in deh,” he said.
While the news team was speaking with Lindo, the stone-throwing episode began. A few rocks sailed over a fence and landed on the road. Lindo said the spirit appeared to be upset that he was talking, hence its reason for throwing the stones. He also said that Tailor’s attachment to the property remained strong even in death.
“A mi give the lady the okay to move in and do her thing, and she go in there and start burn all kind of something. She bun weh she a bun, and this start happen. Every weh just a get stone, and mi nuh know weh di stone dem a come from. Mi carry people go inna me backyard and seh ‘see mi yard deh. There is no stone. It clean like whistle. See mi likkle baby dem yah. Deh cyaa fling dem deh supme deh, plus those things nuh inna the yaad fi dem fling,” he said.
“You just see things appear and a fling. … Mi never believe inna dem thing yah. Every day mi seh, mi cyaa really believe weh mi a see wid mi two eyes,” he said.
SENSING THE SPIRIT
Prior to the news team’s encounter, a man who was pushing a handcart seemed to be sensing the angry spirit of Tailor.
“You weak like lamb. Mi can talk to you, me can negotiate with you, mi can gamble with you and mi can win. You a guh lose. Have mercy. Nuh kill nobody … a nuh me ,a the woman. Don’t mek me touch me Bible, enuh. Hallelujah God! Do God, help me Lord because mi know him a guh f**k mi up, enuh. Mi never waah trouble you enuh, mi neeh wah trouble you,” the man was heard saying.
Residents in the area said that stones were being flung on everyone who dared to walk past his shop on Wednesday.
Jonathan Lindo, who once occupied a room behind the tailor shop, said the handcart man ask Tailor not to hurt him as he had done nothing wrong.
“Dat man a read up everything. Him seh Tailor trang and a somebody do him supm and him wah kill sumbady. Weh deh yah, when him a drive the cart pass, him just know a wah gwan. Hi seh Tailor have two more days to complete weh him a complete,” he said.
One vendor, who has lived in the community for more than 40 years, said she was taken aback when everything started to unfold three weeks ago.
“Mi never did believe inna dem supm yah till now. The stone dem a come from round a the back a the yard, off a the house top, from up inna the tree. A yah so mi deh and see everything. Mi neh believe inna duppy, but mi know seh weh mi see real,” the vendor said.
