After a four-year break, Jah Cure returns with his eighth album, a 14-song set titled Royal Soldier. It is scheduled for release on August 30 by VP records and hears the singer collaborating with several artists.

“The last album was more Jah Cure…this time is me an’ a lotta mi friends. A lotta royal soldiers,” he said.

Two songs from Royal Soldier have already been serviced to radio. Marijuana is a hip hop-driven single featuring a chant from Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, while the ballad Pretty Face has a similar feel.

Another collaboration is Street Kings on which Jah Cure teams with roots veterans Junior Reid, Yami Bolo and Capleton. Because they are some of his biggest influences, he said that song holds special meaning.

The 41-year-old Jah Cure also works with Popcaan, arguably dancehall’s hottest act, on Life is Real and Canadian rapper Tory Lanez on Magic.

Royal Soldier has a more commercial sound than its predecessor, The Cure, which came out in 2015. It was also distributed by VP Records.

The Cure contained four sizeable hit songs — Life We Live, Rasta, That Girl and a cover of John Legend’s All of Me. It had a lengthy stay in the Billboard reggae Albums Chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album.

Jah Cure recently performed in Kenya and has a number of dates lined-up in the British Virgin Islands, The Netherlands and Africa as part of promotion for Royal Soldier.

This is Jah Cure’s fourth album for VP Records. Ghetto Life, his first for the Queens, New York label, was produced by his mentor, Beres Hammond.
