With his EP scheduled for release in less than one month, singer Hymn Marley is preparing for his first major solo gig — the Labor Day Reggae Splash Festival which takes place September 2 at Gro Wynwood in Miami, his hometown.
Hymn, son of Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Stephen Marley and grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, grew up in Miami. He admits there are a few butterflies in the stomach.
“This is the first time I’ve been a headliner for a festival, but it’s not my first show. I’ve done a couple with my family when they have concerts in the area,” he said. “I wouldn’t say (I’m) nervous! I’m more anxious, getting out there and giving a great performance is always something I look forward to doing.”
This month, Hymn released You Don’t Even Love Me, a reggae song that features a deejay slot by his brother Yohan. Distributed by Tuff Gong International(TGI), it is the second single from In my Head, his pending EP which will also be distributed by TGI.
Since You’ve Been Gone, the first single, came out in July.
The inaugural Labor Day Reggae Festival takes place in the trendy Wynwood section of Miami. It has Grammy winners Inner Circle on the bill, as well as California reggae band 4th & Orange and reggaeton singer Amara La Negra.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, Hymn Marley has been recording since 2017. He says his appearance on the event caps a fruitful year.
“I’m really satisfied with the progress of what’s been going on in the last year! Last year, I was talking about headlining festivals and now I’m about to do one. The EP is done and basically we’re putting the icing on the cake now before it’s released which is going to be really soon”
