PATTERSON…injured in accident at St Andrew home—

FORMER Prime Minister P J Patterson is to undergo surgery today at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).

A statement yesterday from the People’s National Party (PNP), which Patterson served for several years as president, said after an evaluation by the medical team attending to Patterson, it was determined that he suffered injuries to his right knee and right hip.

The former PM was reportedly involved in a motor vehicle accident at his St Andrew home, shortly after 7:00 pm on Monday.

He is currently admitted on the Tony Thwaites Wing of the UHWI.

The PNP statement said that the medical team, led by Dr Kenneth Vaughn, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at UHWI, believes that Patterson will make a full recovery with the appropriate medical treatment.

The former PM’s family, in the meantime, has expressed sincere appreciation for the many expressions of best wishes which have been pouring in from many Jamaicans to the hospital center.

Patterson has been visited by PNP president and leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips; Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton; and minister with responsibility for education, youth and information, Karl Samuda.Sponsored Links
