After 40 years in the game, Junior Reid is still hunting hit songs for himself and other artists. The veteran Jamaican singer believes he has another winner in Money Jet, a rhythm scheduled for release on November 29 by his JR Productions.
Sixteen artists are on the beat including Reid’s Jet Dance. His son Wada Blood contributes Stack And Pile, while Bounty Killer does My Standard and I Octane, Big Bike.
“Wi jus’ believe di time is right to do a juggling (rhythm) an’ it’s already being promoted in di dances. Wi have a dance wid it to an’ people inna Europe love it,” Reid boasted.
While he, Bounty Killer and I Octane are established, most of the acts on the Money Jet are unknown to mainstream fans. They include deejay Hard Fi Deal With who does Shell Down The Party and All Flex, a singjay whose song is Money Shi Want.
In terms of releases, JR Productions has had a quiet 2019. Reid’s I Got The Sauce and his son JuJu Blood’s Man a Winner preceded the Money Jet.
The 56 year-old Reid is a cornerstone of modern dancehall. From the Waterhouse community in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, he began recording in the late 1970s as a protégé of roots singer Hugh Mundell.
He has scored a number of anthems throughout his career including Foreign Mind, One Blood and Listen to The Voices.
Reid’s greatest period of commercial success came through collaborations with American rappers Game and Mims on the hit songs, It’s Okay and This is Why I’m Hot, released in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
As a producer, he has released songs by Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs and Canadian singjay Snow.
