The Castell Brothers is the title of a tribute EP by singer Trevor Castell, scheduled for release in late March. It contains seven songs originally recorded by his older brother Lacksley who died in 1983.

Trevor Castell, who lives in South Florida, has worked for years on the project, but refused to release it until he was sure his brother’s legacy was done justice.

“It’s important for me to get it out because people asking me what’s up with the album. They wanna hear certain songs like Princess Lady, Black Sheep, Leaving and a few more,” he explained.

Morning Glory, one of Lacksley’s best known songs, Cruel to Myself, Raggy Road and This Girl And I complete The Castell Brothers’ track list.

Trevor made some modifications to the original songs, most of which were produced by Negus Roots, a label from Waterhouse, their hometown in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital.

“I did a few thing to spice it up a little, like the beats are a little faster,” he said.

Lacksley Castell

Lacksley Castell was only 24 years-old when he died mysteriously in November, 1983 one month after the murder of Hugh Mundell, another roots singer associated with Waterhouse.

Like Mundell, most of his early songs were produced by Augustus Pablo. While Mundell retains a cult following in Europe, Castell remains largely unknown because his catalogue has never been adequately exposed.

Trevor Castell, who is two years younger than Lacksley, began recording in the early 1980’s for producer Bunny Lee. His career took a backseat after he migrated to the United States over 20 years ago.
