Sir Rockwell

In March of 2011, Steven “Sir Rockwell” Warner felt a burning desire to create an online listening experience that was reminiscent of traditional Jamaican radio.  The kind of experience where one could hear a variety of genres within a one-hour period, interspersed with interactive talk, news and of course commercial breaks.  “Rock”, as he is affectionately known to many, charged himself with breaking into the still relatively new medium of online radio and with this determination his online radio station RockDaBox.net was launched.  But that wasn’t enough.  There had to be more.  Anyone who knows Rock knows that he’s always seeking to go above and beyond what is expected.  He pushes himself to go just a little further in delivering the best of himself.  With this in mind Rock created “The Wake Up and Live Morning Show”, the ultimate online Caribbean-formatted morning radio show delivering a mix of musical genres spanning from Reggae and R&B to Zouk and Top 40hits and of course a generous helping of chatter and laughter from his international co-hosts.

Despite, how easy this may sound, The Wake Up and Live Morning Show was not an overnight success.  However, like many who have gone on to greatness in the entertainment industry, Rock spent many days and nights defending and extolling the benefits of online radio.  Caribbean nationals by nature can be skeptical, particularly when it come to this thing called the internet.  How can we listen to you?  Are you sure you can build a following?  Who will hear my ads?  Is it worth it to work with you rather than traditional terrestrial radio?  And so on and so forth.  But every day and every night he toiled.  Beginning with 200 listeners in the early days and being syndicated on 2 other online stations, to now in 2020 having a listenership of over 250,000 syndicated on 42 other stations in 11 countries.  Today, The Wake Up and Live Morning Show is the hottest “other” Caribbean morning show in South Florida and around the world.  Sought after by not only veterans in the business, but also up and coming artists seeking to launch or further their musical careers in the RockDaBox studio.

Rock continues to dedicate himself to the love of music and to sharing this love with everyone around the world.  If you’re still wondering what the hype is about, log on and listen for yourself.  You can catch him every Monday through Friday morning from 7:00 am to 11:00 m EST on www.rockdabox.net.  And just in case you still think that Sir Rockwell, RockDaBox.net and The Wake Up and Live Morning Show were an overnight success, think about the wise words of the one and only Buju Banton:  “It’s not an easy road…many see the glamour and the glitter so them think a bed of rose…Who feels it knows…Lord help me sustain”
