D’Angel—

As the effect of the COVID-19 continues to settle in, many Jamaicans have joined the ranks of the unemployed, with little to nothing in their storage baskets. Basic needs are being denied as many simply cannot afford to put food on their tables.

It is with this in mind that many entertainers and social-media influencers have been using their various platforms to reach out to those most in need. Adding to the pool of persons undertaking philanthropic efforts is the Lady of Dancehall, D’Angel.

Beenie Man

The Stronger singer will be hosting a COVID charity relief concert, which is set for Friday, May 1. She said it will see performances from Beenie Man, G Whizz, Singing Melody, and more. It will be an online streaming event hosted by comedian Trippple X, with live music from DJ RichRocc.

D’Angel said that when she reached out to the artistes to participate in the concert, they were all excited to get on board. She is hoping that the concert will raise US$200,000 (approximately J$27.1 million) to purchase supplies that will be presented to the needy in the form of care packages.

ALWAYS GIVING BACK

“I have my Spread A Little Love foundation and we’re always giving back in different ways when there is a need. We did a fundraiser back in December and we donated supplies to the Mustard Seed Children’s Home. With COVID-19, a lot of folks were reaching out for help and so I decided to embark on a new initiative to offer assistance to these people,” she said, pointing out that her son is the source of inspiration for her efforts.

Singing Melody

“My son, Marco Dean, is my inspiration for this foundation. He has a heart of gold and loves to help the less unfortunate. Angel’s foundation is all about spreading love, joy and kindness, and we need so much more of that these days. People have lost jobs, some can’t feed their families, and if I can help to make things easier for a few more people, I’m going to do that,” she explained.
