Lila Ike–

She burst on to the music scene in 2017 with the single Biggest Fan. In a week’s time, Lila Ike will take her musical career to another level with the release of her debut EP The ExPerience, which drops on May 15.

Unfazed by the current novel coronavirus crisis Lila is boldly stepping forward with her project bolstered by the popularity of her latest single I Spy.

“I’m an artiste and it’s what I do; music. The work never stops. Plus, everyone is online now and they are looking for new and fresh things to do and listen to, so I think it’s still good timing. Touring and performances will come, but for me to be able to do that, I have to put out music first,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

“Im a very dynamic person and I wanted my first project The ExPerience to reflect that. It shows my versatility as an artiste. Singing and deejaying about different experiences we have as humans – something to show that we can all relate with each other one way or another. The EP came about because it was just the right timing. My songs, Where Im Coming From and Second Chance, really put me out there as an artiste and then after being a part of this label deal, mi say yes, man, it’s time now… it was ordained,” she continued.

Speaking of the record deal, Lila Ike along with her musical mentor Protoje and stablemate Sevana were recently signed to RCA Records, something she feels can only provide bigger opportunities for her career.

“The deal will definitely help with boosting my career as they’ll be able to put my music on a bigger platform and push me to a wider audience. I’m really looking forward to doing different types of music, meeting with different artistes and brands and learning more. The major labels have all the connections and I’m happy to be in the mix. I have creative control over my music and my visuals so having a giant behind all of that with genuine interest and support will bring the whole thing to another level,” she pointed out.

The 20-something-year-old is part of a cadre of young, talented female acts rising out of Jamaica at this time. She is right there with the likes of Grammy winner Koffee, Jah9, Sevanna, Jane MacGizmo, Jazz Elise, Naomi Cowan, Kalissa, and Jamila Falak.

The significance of this female movement does not go unnoticed by Lila Ike, who encouraged other talented young women to enter the music space to take up the challenge.

“Go out there and do it. Work hard and focus on what you want and don’t let anybody tell you cannot do it. You have to believe and know you can do something before anyone else believes in you. Have a good team and a support system around that understands your dreams and visions so they can help with keeping you on track,” she encouraged.

The artiste also shared what she hoped her fans will walk away with after listening to The ExPerience.

“I want them to be inspired, feel love and excitement. There is a song for everything – giving thanks, meditation, love, break-up, and having fun. I’m hoping everyone who listens will be impacted in a positive way,” she said.
