KINGSTON, Jamaica —

Two males have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s total number of cases to 509.

The men are aged 48 and 74 years old and are from St Catherine and Kingston and St Andrew, respectively. One is a contact of a confirmed case related to the Alorica call centre in Portmore, St Catherine and the other case is under investigation.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, who gave the update at a digital press briefing a short while ago, also informed that 13 more patients have recovered and have been released from hospital in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 113.

Tufton also said there are 426 patients in isolation and 123 persons of interest are in quarantine at a Government facility.

Meanwhile, the 210 people who arrived in the island today one two flights from the United States and one from Canada, have been placed under quarantine at a government facility for for 14 days.

The arrival of the Jamaicans is part of Government’s controlled re-entry program, which allows the return of Jamaicans who were left stranded when the country’s borders were closed in March to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
