Nikki Z, who has championed dancehall and Jamaican culture on radio stations in the United States, Britain and Africa, recently debuted her latest project, Sex Weed & Reggae.
The bi-monthly podcast, which focuses on lifestyle and entertainment, is scheduled to have its second program May 29.
It broadcasts from Studio Z, Nikki Z’s new facility in Fort Lauderdale. She will also present her Nikki Z Live morning show from that location.
“Both Nikki Z Live and Sex Weed & Reggae is for EVERYONE who love the reggae/dancehall culture, no matter where you are from. No matter what race, demographic… All are welcome,” she stated.
Sex Weed & Reggae is “financially and technically supported” by StreamGuys, a leading streaming company based in California. Its first show included an interview with Missy, a colleague of Lady Saw who spoke about challenges women face in a music business where men still call the shots.
“I have had many discussions with various women in the industry. This was one of the reasons for Sex Weed & Reggae … to be able to have more deeper discussions that can be helpful in the end. We will also be discussing the business on a whole and how we can make it better,” Nikki Z explained.
Born Nicole Duhaney to Jamaican parents in Hartford, Connecticut, Nikki Z developed an affinity for her family’s homeland and culture from childhood. She has hosted or reported on dancehall/reggae for BBC 1 Xtra, WZMX Hot 93.7 FM in Connecticut, Zip 103 FM in Jamaica andt through the Hot Caribbean Countdown show which aired in Kenya and Ghana.
Since February, Nikki Z has hosted Nikki Z Live from Mondays to Fridays 7-11 am in Florida on The Voice 92.7 FM and 96.1 South Florida, and Spark FM Boston.
