Emilio Estefan

One World, the highly-anticipated album from The Wailers, is scheduled for release in late August. Most of its songs are produced by Emilio Estefan, husband of pop/Latin superstar Gloria Estefan.
Aston Barrett Jr., drummer and leader of the legendary band, confirmed that the set will be released by Sony Latin. He and lead singer Joshua David Barrett (no relation) also co-produced some of the album’s songs.
Given Estefan’s massive following in Latin America, Barrett believes One World can expand The Wailers’  audience beyond its traditional roots-reggae base.

He credits its lead single, One World, One Prayer, for already achieving that.
“Instantly when we heard it we knew it was a hit, not in terms of sales but we are thinking of how it influences people and uplifts them,” said Barrett.
Released in May, One World, One Prayer is written and produced by Estefan who met Barrett late last year in Miami and expressed an interest in working with the band which was once famously led by Bob Marley.
The song features Cedella Marley, Marley’s daughter, her son Skip, Shaggy and Puerto Rican singer Farruko.
One World also includes Destiny, done with the Estefans daughter, Emily. It was originally recorded by Gloria for her 1996 album of the same name.
Walk And Talk, a Ska track and Stand Firm are among the songs the Barretts co-produced for One World.

Twenty-nine year-old Aston Barrett Jr joined The Wailers  nine years ago. He assumed the reins in 2017 after its longtime leader, his father Aston “Family Man” Barrett,  suffered a series of strokes.
The elder Barrett on bass and his younger brother Carlton on drums were the backbone of the patented One Drop sound that helped make Marley a superstar in the 1970’s.

Marley died from cancer in May, 1981. Carlton Barrett was murdered in Jamaica in 1987.
Since Marley’s death, The Wailers have gone through multiple personnel changes with Barrett Senior its titular leader.
They released three studio albums under his watch, the last being Jah Message which came out in 1994.
