Though she has been singing since childhood, Erica Lewis-Guy only began recording songs in late 2019. For her second single, the New York-based artiste covered a popular hymn she loved since her youth in Jamaica.
Known as Prophetess Guy, she is the latest to do Hear O Lord (The Sound of my Call), a standard in gospel circles.

“It’s a song I’ve always loved and we wanted to put a little island feel to it. That’s why you hear the steel pan sound,” she said.
“We” includes Sidney Mills, the veteran musician who produced ‘Hear O Lord’. He is best known for his over 20 years recording and touring with British reggae band Steel Pulse.
Prophetess Guy’s version is similar to that recorded by The Goretti Group choir and Dixieland Orchestra, a steel pan band from Trinidad and Tobago. Their rendition, done in the late 1970’s, is revered throughout the Caribbean.

It is one of many inspirational songs Prophetess Guy was weaned on as a young Christian in Manchester, a farming parish in central Jamaica. She grew up in the United and Pentecostal Church and maintained her religious ties after migrating to the United States over 30 years ago.
Last December, Prophetess Guy made her recording debut with My Redeemer Lives. So far this year, she has done five songs including How Great Thou Art, another gospel classic.
