Of the countless classic rhythms produced by Clement “Coxson” Dodd, Love Me Forever by Carlton and The Shoes has always been special for Norman Owen.
So for his latest project, Stars Have To Shine, the New York-based producer revisited that 1968 beat with the help of veteran bass player Daniel “Danny Axeman” Thompson.

There are 13 songs on the Stars Have to Shine compilation album which is being released this week by Owen’s Crown International label. Most of the songs are done by seasoned acts like Carlton Livingston, Pinchers, Uton Green and Lone Ranger.

“Yuh cyaan do a foundation riddim an’ don’t have at least three foundation artiste ’cause dem pave di way,” said Owen.
Livingston started his career during the early 1970’s on Jamaican sound systems before breaking out with the ganja anthem, 100 Weight of Collie Weed. His song on the Stars Have To Shine is Make Man Live, while Green teams with Owen (aka Azee) on A Me She Want. Mich, Touch, Robert Minott, Lyrical and Virgo Man are some of the other acts on the project.

Owen is no stranger to the music business. From Central Village in St. Catherine, Jamaica, he and his brother Ansel have co-produced several ‘riddim’ compilation albums such as the Gravel and Fun Time.
In the 1990’s, his songs as an artist included Education Is The Key and Peace And Love. He entered the 2006 Festival Song Competition in Jamaica alongside fellow singer Ruddy Thomas with You Are Love.
