AT a time when it seems people of color are under global siege, Nigerian singer Freddy Green reminds them of their proud heritage in African Civilization, his latest song.
Fittingly, it was released on July 23,  the birth date of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I, a pivotal figure in African history. And amid worldwide protests following the controversial deaths of three black Americans at the hands of white law enforcement officers in the United States.

“The message I am conveying in this song is to let the world know that we Africans have been robbed of our freedom, growth, civilization, and modernization by our enemies which can be traced from historical fact,” he said. “Nevertheless, I am conveying a message to let Africans know that there’s hope in the struggles for the total emancipation of blacks. The discipline and good morals we learn from our monarchs and theocracy we must observe, preserve, and protect.”

African Civilization is produced by Jamaican Fitzroy Francis for Mightyful13 Records. Francis, known for his ties to Black Uhuru, also wrote the song which is a blend of reggae and Afro Beat, sounds Green was inspired by in his youth.
“The musicians are from Nigeria and are inspired by the creative works of Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, Culture, and Fela Anikulapo Kuti, just to name a few. I listen and learn from their songs,” he stated.
