Skip Marley, whose history-making global hit “Slow Down” with Grammy Award-winning artist H.E.R. reached #1 on the Billboard Adult R&B chart this spring, releases his eagerly anticipated new single “Make Me Feel” featuring fellow Miamian hitmaker Rick Ross and R&B songstress Ari Lennox via Tuff Gong/Island Records. The new single launched with a first play from DJ Target on BBC 1XTRA
“Make Me Feel” and “Slow Down” are among the cornerstones of Skip’s long-awaited debut EP scheduled for release in August and found Skip collaborating with Nasri Atweh (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Halsey) andonce again with Rykeyz who also produced “Slow Down.” “Make Me Feel” is a feel-good record with a groovy production accompanied with Ross’s effortless flow and Lennox’s sweet and soulful melodies singing the lyrics “let’s make this a good life even through the bad times,” a mantra that resonates louder today.
Earlier this month, Skip, the Marley family and friends from the four corners of the earth banded together as The Amplified Project to ‘reimagine’ Bob Marley’s iconic “One Love” anthem in support of UNICEF. The re-recording of “One Love” supports UNICEF’s Reimagine campaign, a global fundraising appeal to respond, recover and reimagine a post-COVID-19 world fit for children. All net proceeds from sales of the charity release of the “One Love” track and video are being paid to UNICEF.
In May, “Slow Down,” with over 70 million global streams, became the quickest and biggest-streaming song in Marley Family history, and elevated Skip to over 200 million global artist streams It was the first time a Jamaican-born artist reached the #1 spot on the Billboard adult R&B chart. At the same time, Skip became the first Jamaican-born artist inside the Top 15 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart in nearly a decade and a half (since Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole in 2006, “When You Gonna Give it Up to Me”).
The amazing chemistry between Skip and ten-time nominated, two-time 2019 Grammy-winner H.E.R. performing live together was apparent during the song’s television debut on Fallon, a show-stopping performance at the NAACP Image Awards in February, and the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series session last month.
In addition to “Slow Down” and its spinoffs, “Slow Down (Acoustic)” and “Slow Down (Remix)” with H.E.R. featuring Wale – Skip’s Tuff Gong/Island releases since last year include “That’s Not True,” a collabo featuring Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley (his uncle); “Enemy”; and “Can’t Take it From Me” featuring Major Lazer. “No Love,” co-written by Sebastian Kole (Alessia Cara) and Trey Campbell (Ella Mai), was released seven weeks ago. Skip worked on the song with legendary mentor and Miami family friend Betty Wright, who passed away earlier in May. The song is a gritty reggae vibe that samples Wu-Tang Clan’s “Tearz” track from their 1993 LP, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
Skip has earned critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Fader, Hypebeast, Vibe, and others. Most recently during the quarantine, Skip has performed acoustic sets for the launch of the Essence Music Monday series, Billboard Live, and Global Citizen & World Health Organization.
