Whenever Torch gets an opportunity to record songs to a Studio One beat, the veteran singer never turns it down. He is one of the acts featured on the Stars Have To Shine compilation album which revisits Carlton and The Shoes’ timeless hit, Love me Forever.

Torch

His song on the 13-song set is She Requests The Farmer Man.
Torch says he has been a fan of Studio One music since the 1990’s when he was an audio engineer at Youthman Promotions, which was owned by singer Sugar Minott.
“Is something mi grow up on. From the Tickle me once girl to the Undying Love, mi love dem. In those days yuh could feel di passion; it’s not like today when everything is about hype,” Torch stated.

‘Tickle me once girl’ is the opening line from Love Me Forever which was a massive hit in 1968. Undying Love by Ernest Wilson is another Studio One gem.

Norman Owen

Released in July, Stars Have to Shine is produced by Norman Owen for the Crown International label, based in New York. Other artists on the album are Pinchers who does Greatest, Lone Ranger with Boom Sound and Robert Minott whose song is Let’s Chill.
Torch, whose real name is Kevin Campbell, is from Trench Town in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. He started his career over 20 years ago for Big Stone Records with songs like Full Time. His best known single is Good Reggae Music, produced by German company Silly Walks Movement seven years ago.
He had a seven-year stay at Penthouse Records for whom he recorded Ever Burning Flames, his sole album, which came out in 2013.
According to Torch, no matter who he voices for the approach is the same.
“Is strictly consciousness. Mi believe in being a voice for the voiceless,” he said.
