The father and son team of Junior Holt and Bamm Holt have combined to put a fresh spin on a reggae classic done over 40 years ago by their famous relative.
The duo’s version of Tribal War, a song made famous by Little Roy, George Nooks and John Holt, is scheduled for release on August 14

It is produced by the Earl With Love label out of New York with veteran session musicians Flabba Holt (no relation) and Obeah Denton playing the bass and keyboards.
Junior Holt is John’s son while Bamm is Junior’s son.

“It was Junior Holt idea to cover this one based off the vibes that’s going on around the world right about now with all this protesting and looting and police abuse accompanied by racial profiling. This is a song Junior Holt always vibed to and loved from long time,” said Bamm Holt.

He added that he (Bamm) “heard the song growing up but took a liking to it as the message fits perfect for the current times.”
John Holt recorded Tribal War for the Hit Bound label in 1978, the same year Nooks did it for producer Joe Gibbs. Nooks’ version was the bigger hit.
The original cut was done three years earlier by Little Roy.

Holt, one of reggae’s most influential singers, died in 2014 at age 67. He has one of the most impressive catalogs in Jamaican music dating to the 1960’s when he was a member of rocksteady group, The Paragons.
As a solo act, he had numerous hits with Stick by Me, Fancy Makeup and Police in Helicopter.
Junior Holt has been recording for over 30 years. Bamm Holt launched his career two years ago.
