Anthony Cruz takes a stroll down memory lane for Jah Cruz Medley, a lovers rock combo comprising songs he listened in his youth. It is released by Tad’s International Record.

Done to the beat of Alton Ellis’ classic song, Rock Steady, Jah Cruz Medley hears the singer paying homage to Freddie Jackson’s Rock Me Tonight, Love Ballad by LTD, Rock Steady and Sitting In The Park, a song made famous by Billy Stewart and GQ.

Jah Cruz Medley is co-produced by Cruz and Tad Dawkins, head of Tad’s International Record. They played a similar role for Oh Lord, another single by the singer on the market.

Both songs were released in January, but their timeless feel encouraged Cruz to revive his promotional push.

“Yuh know how One Drop music guh, yuh drop dem all di next year an’ dem tek off. People love dem,” he said.

Cruz was a boy when he first heard songs like Rock Me Tonight, a breakthrough hit for Jackson in 1986. Love Ballad, featuring Jeffrey Osborne on vocals, was released in 1978 and remains popular with Jamaicans.

It was only natural, the singer added, that he record verses from them to a classic rock steady beat.

“Wi grow up pon dem chune dey, some a mi favorite, so mi jus’ sing dem! Wi jus’ draw fi di right riddim an’ jus’ lock it,” he said.

Jah Cruz Medley and Oh Lord are Anthony Cruz’s latest projects with Tad’s International. The independent label released his EP, Cruzing, in 2015.
