With all the despair brought on by the Coronavirus in 2020, the age-old phrase ‘my brother’s keeper’ has become even more important. Which is exactly how Deleon “Jubba” White felt when he envisioned Be A Light.

Released on December 4, White co-wrote and produced the song for White Stone Productions. He also played drums and shares vocals with Kumar.

According to White, Be A Light encourages mankind to, “Use our gifts to uplift not just ourselves, but our community. It will by default, serve as motivation to others.”

One of the single ‘s highlights is a piercing guitar solo from Lamont “Monty” Savory, arguably reggae’s most in-demand session musician. Kumar, former lead singer with the Raging Fyah band, has also been busy since going solo.

White, who lives in Portland, Oregon, thought they would be perfect for Be A Light.

“The compelling words and melody of the chorus entered my mind a little after midnight a few years ago, and I immediately went into my little home studio and started working out the structure. In the process of doing so, the theme reminded me of the annual show Bands Incorporated that I used to produce on behalf of my band,” he recalled.

“It immediately dawned on me, that a song like this, would not be complete without incorporating friends that were a part of the experience then. That’s where Kumar and Monty come in.”

“My band” is the Dubtonic Kru which White and Strickland Stone, who plays bass on Be A Light, formed in the 1990’s.

They started as a backing band for acts like The Mighty Diamonds, Richie Spice and Voicemail but toured Europe and North America consistently until three years ago.

White has been active as a producer in recent times. In June, his compilation EP, Freedom: (The Declaration of Rights) was released by Tuff Gong International.
