Relatives of Roshane Thomas mourn after seeing his body.—

The mother of a man killed in a confrontation with the police viciously kicked his body yesterday and angrily chastised her deceased son for not heeding her warnings.

“Yuh see how long mi a talk to yuh and yuh make police come kill yuh,” the woman said before kicking his body lying in a body bag.

Roshane Thomas, 36, was fatally shot in Torrington Park, St Andrew, yesterday. Hurt by the manner in which her child’s life ended, the woman’s emotions swung between anger and pain as she visited the scene of the shooting. Her screams pierced the air and she gripped her belly tightly as she was led away by two women. A little boy, who identified himself as Thomas’ son, walked away from the crime scene, his eyes swollen from crying.

According to the police, about 12:30 p.m., the lawmen, acting on intelligence, went to a premises and saw two men in a gully that runs at the back of the yard.

“We called out to the men but instead they opened gunfire at us and the police returned fire. One of the men subsequently fell in the gully while the other man escaped. A firearm was found beside the deceased man while the second man turned up at KPH (Kingston Public Hospital) with gunshot wounds. He is now under police guard at the hospital,” a senior cop on the scene told the news team.

Some persons could be heard commending the lawmen for what they said was a quick response to a killing that occurred approximately three hours earlier. They stated that Thomas had allegedly killed an innocent man about 9:30 a.m. The police, however, stated that they were unable to tie the two incidents and are treating them as different investigations.

As is required by law, the Independent Commissions of Investigations has launched an investigation.
