Since moving to the United Kingdom over 25 years ago, Franklin “Shinehead” Miles has forged a reputation as a promoter of reggae shows featuring top acts like Freddie McGregor and Richie Stephens. On Boxing Day, he steps into a different realm with the virtual staging of the hit play, Money Move. It will be shown through his Sunshine Horizon company, based in Harrow, a borough of London. A hit in Jamaica, Money Move was scheduled for a UK run this year but because of Covid-19, there has been a change of plans. Undaunted, Miles wants to emulate the comedy’s Jamaican performance. “We try to get the promotion on radio, in the newspapers, on the Internet and as much social media as possible,” said Miles. He is targeting areas with a strong Jamaican presence such as South Florida, the tri-state area and Toronto.
Ads have also been placed in Jamaica where Money Move had a 35-date run. Miles, who is from Westmoreland parish in Jamaica, made his debut as a theatrical promoter in 2019. That event was 56 East Avenue, a play starring and directed by Oliver Samuels that did one show in Harrow. He is best known for promoting shows with a diverse roster of acts, from U Roy to Little John and Dexter Daps. Miles is also the man behind UK Soundfest which has attracted sound systems like Saxon from the UK, King Addies from New York and Bodyguard out of Jamaica. Money Move debuted in Kingston in July last year. Its previous show was on Valentine’s Day in rural St. Elizabeth parish.
