It’s been a case of knowing the name and the voice but never seeing the face for most of Clinton Lindsay’s career. Well, hordes of fans got their first glimpse of the broadcast legend on December 21 when he launched his Clinton Lindsay Official Youtube channel.
The series, with his grandson Elijah as Technical Director, debuted with Lindsay’s interviews with Toots Hibbert and Buju Banton. They were part of a popular summer series that aired on his clintonlindsay.com website.
Lindsay, who is based in South Florida, made his name on the competitive New York City Caribbean radio beat during the 1970s and 1980s. It took some convincing from his better half to go public, so to speak.
“My wife Georgia had mentioned it to me about three years ago, but I never had any interest. I am not a visual person. She kept telling me that’s where I need to go so finally I told her to secure the channel and I will consider it…I eventually talked to a few people about doing it,” he disclosed.
Elijah handles the content for Clinton Lindsay Official. For now, that entails the summer interviews and his weekly music charts which will air every five days.
The interviews also included Papa Michigan, Jamaica’s Entertainment Minister, Olivia Grange, Cocoa Tea, Chezidek, Richie Spice, Donovan Germain and Tommy Cowan.
After the initial apprehension, Lindsay is excited about winning new fans.
“Well, I hope it will introduce me to a much larger and younger audience…I am told it is a visual world now and I need to step up to the plate. I would like as many as possible to subscribe, share and comment on these interviews,” he said.
