Respected Jamaican broadcaster and musicologist Dermot Hussey debuts a weekly podcast on January 29 which will revisit interviews he did with celebrities including Toots Hibbert, Bob Marley and Sade.

The opening show features his interview with Toots who died in September at age 77.

Hussey said the idea for his Riffin Podcast came late last year.

“We started to create the podcast in December of 2020 beginning with the YouTube channel. Several factors influenced my decision to create a podcast. Because of the (Coronavirus) pandemic, I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. For the first time in 20 years, my entire archive was under one roof. It was my daughter’s suggestion. She is the producer and pulled together a team to make it happen,” he explained.

Hussey added that, “The podcast is a great way to bring three decades of celebrity interviews to the public. These interviews were podcast-ready decades in advance.”

The podcast will air on Spotify, Apple, Stitcher, Google and iheart.

There are approximately 43 interviews. The most noted is Hussey’s famous chat with Marley in Kingston in 1974.

Other interviews to be aired include Garnet Silk, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Roberta Flack.

Hussey is one of the hosts for The Joint on SiriusXM, Monday to Friday. On Sundays, he hosts Real Jazz on that station.

He is co-author of the book, “Bob Marley: Reggae King of The World” with Malika Lee Whitney.
