Carl Malcolm

Because he always injected humor into his songs, Carl Malcolm gets a sense of satisfaction whenever he writes or records. That’s the feeling he had when writing Deeper Pocket.
Released in 2020, the song is produced by Willie Lindo for Heavy Beat Records.
“I have written over 1000 original songs to date and never stopped recording my own material. I think that is the only way to add to the spreading of the culture,” said Malcolm who has lived in Washington DC for over 40 years.

The dreadlocked singer began his career in the 1960’s. He had a purple patch during the 1970’s, a period of black consciousness in Jamaica.
While many youth were into the message sounds of Bob Marley, Burning Spear and Culture, they also found favor with easy-listening rockers from Malcolm like No Jestering, Miss Wire Waist and Fattie Bum Bum.
“The reason why I did No Jestering, Miss Wire Waist, and Fattie Bum Bum is not something that I give a reason. I write from inspiration, observation, imagination and other life experiences,” said Malcolm.

The dreadlocked Malcolm settled in Washington DC in 1977, one year after Fattie Bum Bum made the British national chart. He is recognized as one of reggae’s elder statesmen in the American capital.

Willie Lindo

Deeper Pocket is his latest collaboration with Lindo, known for his work with Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown, Boris Gardiner and Wayne Wade.
In the past five years, Malcolm’s songs for Heavy Beat include Don’t Worry Daddy and Jah Jah See Them.
