When it comes to making music, Sixy Morris is the eternal optimist. After over 30 years in the business, singing is still a thrill.
“It’s my calling. If it was for di money I would have quit this a long time ago,” he said.
Morris and deejay G Speng put their all in I’m Blessed, a cover of the Charlie Wilson song, that was released in November. He produced it for his Life Cycle Music label.
The diminutive vocalist is solo on More Time, a song he recorded for Stingray Records out of London. That single came out this month.
Morris is the son of Eric “Monty” Morris, a pioneer Ska singer known for songs like Wings of A Dove and Oil in my Lamp. He followed his father into music in the early 1980’s when he entered Jamaica’s Tastee Talent Contest, an event that exposed budding acts like Nadine Sutherland and Yellowman.
Sixy Morris has recorded songs for several producers including Beres Hammond. His debut album, Sunrise, was released in 2016.
He backs himself to do well whenever he does a new single.
“I’m always optimistic about every song I sing. I’m not saying it’s going to be a hit but I always think it going to surprise me an’ di people” Morris said.
