What activists and politicians now call systemic racism is nothing new to singer Sista Time, who has seen multiple violations against persons of color since moving to the United States in 1971 from her native Jamaica.

Such unwarranted behavior influenced her latest song, “Justice”. The self-produced single was released in early January.

“Police brutality against blacks, white racists, a broken system and corrupt leaders inspired Justice,” said Sista Time, who keeps check with racially-charged incidents in the US including the controversial death of George Floyd last May.

“I keep up with current affairs a lot,” she said.

Sista Time is from St. Ann in northern Jamaica. Known as the Garden Parish because of its lush scenery, St. Ann is the birthplace of Pan African founder Marcus Garvey, and reggae legends Bob Marley and Burning Spear.

Influenced by Marley, Buju Banton, Sister Nancy and Sister Carol, she has been recording since 1991 when she did “Bubble fi me Massive”.

Now based in South Florida, Sista Time has since released a handful of songs such as “Love Start With Me (Love Start With You”).
