SKA is represented on this week’s US Current Reggae Albums Chart, according information provided by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The 12-song compilation, This is Jamaica Ska: Studio One, features hits available on digital download for the first time.
The set is number one, a big move from 11 last week.
Released last October by Steady Rollin Records, this is Jamaica Ska: Studio One is part of the Studio One Original Masters Series. Among its tracks are Simmer Down by The Wailers, Salt Lane Gal by The Skatalites, Push Wood from Jackie Opel, Bongo Tango by Roland Alphonso, and The Vow by Jackie Opel and Doreen Shaffer, which topped the RJR charts in 1965.
This is Jamaica Ska: Studio One sold 146 copies last week to bring its two-week total to 189.
The US Current Reggae Albums Chart this week is a mix of old and new. Spanish artiste El Natty Combo is up 13 places to number two with Flores Y Burbujas, while the number three spot is held by Songs of Freedom: The Island Years by Bob Marley and The Wailers.
New at number four is Righteous Synergy by Akae Beka, while #7DJ (7 Dias En Jamaica) by Maluma remains number five.
Uprising Live! Limit by Bob Marley and The Wailers jumps from number 22 to six, while Higher Place by Skip Marley dips one point to number seven.
Coastin’ by Iration rises five places to number five, with Live at The Rainbow, 4th June 1977 by Bob Marley and The Wailers, dropping from number four to nine.
Look for The Good by Jason Mraz slips from number two to eight.
New at number 18 is Different Fashion: High Note Dancehall 1979 – 1981. It features 33 songs produced by the late Sonia Pottinger, including previously released and unreleased tracks.
Trojan Records released the set last month. Among the artistes featured are Tony Tuff, Michael Palmer, Papa Ritchie, Jah Thomas, and Lorna Bennett.
This is the first time these songs are out on compact disc.
On the streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and The Wailers is number one for a 61st week.
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy is number two; World on Fire and Set in Stone by Stick Figure are numbers three and four, respectively.
Greatest Hits by UB40 is number five, #7DJ (7 Dias En Jamaica) is six, and Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul holds the number seven spot.
Dutty Rock by Sean Paul re-enters at number eight, Higher Place by Skip Marley is down to nine and Gold by Bob Marley and The Wailers dips one place to 10.
Regionally, Social Media Hype (SMH) by Tasha T continues to reign atop the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae Chart.
Jah Love by Winston Irie is the new number one on The Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Music Chart (New York).
Sad to Know (You’re Leaving) by Keith Cole spends a second week at number one on the South Florida Top 25 Reggae Chart.
