For his debut as a music producer, Marvin “Lion Cubb” Gayle wanted more emphasis on quality than quantity. So, there are only six songs on Di Reminisce Riddim album which was released in January. Gayle played drums on the rhythm which showcases the talent of artists he handpicked for the project, released by his Lion Cubb Production label. “My aim is to create more positive message music that will educate, motivate, uplift and influence people. There is a lot of music out there that is influencing people to do wrongs, so if my music could influence some to do good then my mission is accomplished,” he said.
Ginjah is by far the best known of the artists on Di Reminisce. The seasoned singer does Get Up Now. Too Much Bills by Wezdum Fyah, What Is Love from T-Drive, Never Too Late by Jayslik, Guide Us by Barbie Cassh and Loyal Flames’ Play That Song complete the list of songs. Born and raised in rural Manchester parish in central Jamaica, Gayle has been playing drums since childhood. Seven years ago, he began learning to play the keyboards. He conceptualized Di Reminisce in 2015, but although he did a rough draft at a local recording studio, lack of funds prevented him from completing the project. It was not until late last year that he began recording songs worthy for release. Though he dabbles with different sounds, Gayle knew what direction he was looking for. “I make a lot of rhythms of all genres so I never had any particular feel for this project specifically. I just decided that I would put out Di Reminisce Riddim as my first reggae project,” he said.
