Macka Diamond has been honored in the US city of Cincinnati last Friday for her contribution to reggae music.—
John Cranley, mayor of the US city of Cincinnati, last Friday declared March 12 as ‘Macka Diamond Day’ in honour of her work and contribution to reggae music.
Macka Diamond, who was in the state of Ohio for a performance, said the proclamation is unexpected, especially because that was probably her second time in Cincinnati.
“I have no family living here but a very strong fan base. At first, I was questioning how I got the recommendation, but I believe it is owed to the fans and them watching over the years. They see me as a strong woman and love my resilience,” the singjay told THE STAR.
The proclamation relating to ‘Macka Diamond Day’, states: “Whereas, as Women’s history is being celebrated locally and around the world, Macka Diamond is being recognized as a recording artiste, singer, songwriter, producer, actress, author and fashion designer.”
While singing lyrics from her latest single Set Me Free, she said, “Nuh matter how much me go through, I push through and this is one of the rewards,” manifesting that bad mind and negativity has not stopped her career.
“Even the show, I never expected it to be packed because only a handful of people go to reggae and dancehall events in the city, but the people come out and show me love. It’s a good look for dancehall and women,” Macka Diamond said.
Known for popularizing the slang ‘Money Oh’, Macka has been on a roll, touring the US for a few months. Next month she is expected to headline a live concert in Florida.
Macka Diamond says she is also savoring an award from New Jersey’s Vibes Link FM 96.1, which she earned in 2014 for Female Deejay of the Year, but was unable to collect it.
“I am not sure what happened that year, but it still means the world to me that although it’s been that long, they came and made a surprise presentation in the past week. They found me and ‘set me free’ because I deserve it,” she said.
