International recording artiste Warrior King recently joined forces with Food For The Poor (FFTP) and BOOM Energy Drink in a humanitarian effort to make the living conditions of a senior citizen more comfortable.

Julia Brown, a 63-year-old retired farmer of Thornton, St Elizabeth, was the beneficiary of the partnership as a two-bedroom house was constructed for her.

The house has been fitted with a solar panel to power basic electronic components. It has a kitchen and bathroom facilities, as well as a water storage tank.

Marsha Burrell-Rose, development and marketing manager at FFTP, said the situation in which Brown and her family lived was dire.

“They were living in a dilapidated structure that had no indoor bathroom facilities and provided very little shelter from the elements. We are truly happy for this partnership which has placed the Brown family in a safe and sanitary structure,” Burrell-Rose said.

Warrior King, the Virtuous Woman hitmaker, was on hand to assist with the work on the structure.

“It’s a blessing to be able to help in whatever way I can, especially another St Elizabeth resident, because I also live in the parish … . I commend Food For The Poor and BOOM for helping this woman and her family,” said Warrior King.

In addition to working on the structure, the singer assisted with the planting of fruit trees in Brown’s yard.

“I love to farm in my spare time, so it was nice to help plant the mango, ackee and jackfruit trees,” he said.

The two-bedroom dwelling was provided for Mrs Brown and her family as a Women’s Month initiative under Food For The Poor’s ‘Tan Ah Yuh Yard’ campaign – which provides homes with proper sanitary conveniences for vulnerable Jamaicans to stay indoors and practice proper hygiene during the pandemic.

Keteisha McHugh, BOOM’s brand manager, said, “It’s such a good feeling when someone like Warrior King steps out to lend their brand to deliver such a positive message in support of our nation’s women.

“Food For The Poor brought Mrs Brown’s needs to our attention. Her husband died many years ago and at her age, she is still pushing to provide for her family. As an elderly woman, I think that epitomizes the meaning of a ‘virtuous woman’, so it was even more fitting for Warrior King to come on board for this initiative,” McHugh said.
