For over 10 years, DJ Treasure has tirelessly promoted the songs of artists in Jamaica through the popular mixtape platform or as a sound system selector. The latest single in which he is involved, transcends commercial activity.
Cyaa Believe, a song he wrote, is done by singjay PipeLyne. It is inspired by the death of Nicola Campbell, DJ Treasure’s older sister, who was murdered by gunmen in Kingston, Jamaica in early March.
She hosted the popular Nicola Campbell’s Journey on YouTube. That family fare was based on how she raised her three children.
DJ Treasure said writing Cyaa Believe was an emotional task, as he and his sister shared a strong bond. She was even closer to her daughters.
“She would move the world for them. Since she is not here to do it, I will do it for her,” he vowed.
Cyaa Believe is produced by DJ Treasure Music. He added that it goes out to “all who are suffering the tragic loss of a loved one to this unbearable violence that is the other monster pandemic that plagues the streets of Jamaica”.
Police report that 36 year-old Campbell, a clerk at the Kingston Public Hospital, was murdered as she returned home from work. No arrest has been made.
Over 400 murders have been reported to date in Jamaica in 2021.
