On Grand Pree, his first released song, singer Acea encourages the dancehall faithful to party like there is no tomorrow. But he is determined to make music that will last, like one of his heroes.
“Bob Marley. A man of legendary talent. His music is heartfelt. Never forgotten. That’s the impression or mark I wish to leave in this industry,” he said.
Acea’s policy to make enduring, positive music is in line with the mantra of Overcome Family, the five year-old company that produced Grand Pree.
Artiste and label are from Hanover, a parish in western Jamaica where the economy is driven mainly by guest house tourism.
Before he began recording, Acea listened to several artists. In addition to Marley, contemporary acts like Tarrus Riley and Jahvinci caught his ears. He is keen to emulate their approach as well.
“I love the way they put a part of soul in their music,” he said.
For now, Acea is just happy to get his career off the mark with Grand Pree.
“This feeling is the feeling of accomplishment. I feel a sense of honored integrity, because I am able to showcase my passion on a world scale,” he said.
