A true veteran of Jamaica’s music business, Orville “Bagga” Case is synonymous with the Home T group which has been recording since the 1970’s. At times, he steps away for solo projects. Case does his own thing on “Mr. Banjo Man”, an EP released this month by Upstairs Music out of South Florida. It contains six songs including the title which Case recorded during the early 1990’s while on hiatus from Home T. “It’s a special song for me. I’ve done a lot of songs but this one is really special, maybe because I wrote it,” said Case. “Mr. Banjo Man” features Ibo Cooper of Third World fame and Robbie Lyn on keyboards; Stephen “Cat” Coore of Third World on guitar and Home T’s Mikey Bennett playing bass. An interesting inclusion is “Beyond The Sea’, a ballad originally done in the early 1960’s by Jamaican singer Teddy Brown. Case said it has been a favorite of his since his boyhood days in Rae Town, a seaside community in Kingston.
The lanky Case has sang lead on several Home T hit songs. The best known is the Yuletide classic, “Mek The Christmas Ketch You in A Good Mood”. He says there is a taste of everything for fans on “Mr. Banjo Man”. “I believe we have some nice songs here…lovers rock, nice, soothing reggae. I think there’s still a market for this kind of music.”
