There is a lot of brotherly love on World Prayer, a reggae-meets-gospel song by singer Ras Kronik and his sibling Chillum. Recently released, it hears them calling for happy vibes in the midst of global hysteria.
Ras Kronik and Chillum, a deejay, share writing credits with Robert “Ricky Dread” Stephens, a member of the Bonafide Band which, like Ras Kronik, are longtime residents of Las Vegas.
It is the brothers’ first song together. According to Ras Kronik, it’s been a long time coming.
“We talked about doing something long time ago but I can say that now is the right time, especially for a song of this nature,” he said. “Actually, it was Chillum who sent me the chorus and when I heard it, I made arrangements to make it happen the way it is.”
Those “arrangements” were made with Stephens who brought a call-and-response feel to World Prayer.
“I told him to come up with something that could possibly play anywhere, even in churches,” Ras Kronik disclosed.
He and his brother are originally from Clarendon parish in central Jamaica. Recording since the 1990’s, Ras Kronik has made a name for himself in Nevada, particularly Las Vegas, where he has lived for over 15 years.
A song like World Prayer, he stated, is appropriate given the paranoia around the Coronavirus.
“We are fighting a spiritual battle between good and evil, between the light and the dark. So, a song of this magnitude should be able to help an individual reconnect with the source of creation, the true light, the God within. As long as they are willing to do so they will be fine,” he said.
