Nigel Angus, Dovey Magnum’s new manager, has come forward to clarify the recent arrest and detention of his client.
In a statement posted to his Instagram Stories yesterday, Angus revealed that Dovey Magnum’s situation with the US Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) in Atlanta, Georgia, is not a criminal one.
Hoping to put speculations surrounding her case to rest, Angus said the Bawl Out artiste was only being haunted by one issue, and that was overstaying her time in the US.
“I’m here to put all the speculations to rest regarding the @doveymagnum rumors about her being held by immigration. It would be foolish of us to deny this; but what we are not going to do is do the add-on ‘speculations’,” a part of his statement read.
“There is only ONE problem and it’s regarding her overstaying here in the States. I have retained an attorney, who goes by [the name] Mr Farqueson, and has declared this is only an immigration issue, NOT a criminal case.”
It was revealed on Friday that Dovey Magnum was taken into custody by ICE and is being held at the Stewart Detention Center in Atlanta.
Details surrounding her case were not immediately known.
The artiste, whose real name is Simsky Kimberly Harrison, is still currently listed as ‘in custody’ at the facility on ICE’s Online Detainee Locator.
THE STAR has since made contact with ICE, requesting an interview with the entertainer.
The organisation responded via email, stating that an agent would be in contact.
According to the ICE website however, although a formal request can be made for media personnel to obtain interviews with detainees, the detainee reserves the right to decline such a request.
Dovey Magnum was set to perform at the Purity All White Weekend later today in Florida.
She was set to headline the show alongside Dexta Daps.
Although she will no longer make an appearance, promoters of the event told THE STAR that her presence will still be felt.
The promoter, Mineral Boss, said that a 30-minute slot will be dedicated to the artiste so that her fans can still enjoy her music.
Dubbing Dovey Magnum a ‘sister’, the promoter said her situation was unfortunate and expressed that he, along with his team, will be rallying around her as far as support is concerned.
