As a recording artist, JoJo Mac has done songs for the legendary Clement “Coxson” Dodd and toured as a member of Grammy winners Black Uhuru. Before singing, her ambition was to be an author of books.

In 2015, “Secrets: Mixed Up Moods & Deadly Attitudes”, her first book, was released. In April the follow-up, “Secrets Unmasked”, was released by Archway Publishing.

‘Unmasked’ takes up the trail of Natasha, Kylie, Keri, Amanda, and Melanie, five college friends who live in Florida where there is no shortage of drama in their personal lives.

Though there was a six-year break between books, JoJo Mac says her follow-up has been in the works for some time.

“I finished writing this book only a year after the first book was published in 2015. We dragged our feet on the editing process though,” she explained. “Before part one got published, I felt that some of the characters’ stories had more juice left in them and I wanted to find a way to extract it. I feel there is more of a climax now.”

There is a noticeable difference to ‘Unmasked’ from her debut. ‘Mixed Up Moods’ was self-distributed; ‘Unmasked’ was picked-up by Archway Publishing, a company owned by literary giants Simon & Schuster.

JoJo Mac says promotion for the book is scheduled to start June 2 with a social media ad campaign by Archway Publishing. This will be followed by a series of virtual signings.

The Philadelphia-based JoJo Mac recalls been first bitten by the writing bug as a child in rural Clarendon parish, Jamaica where she was born. Although music took priority in the last 25 years, her passion for writing never waned.

“I have a lot of favorite writers but I am a little partial to urban. I love Omar Tyree, Teri McMillan, Zane. I am a big Jackie Collins fan, though. I love stories I can relate to and simple writing,” she said.
