One trait most roots-reggae groups possess is resilience. Even when there are no hit songs or mainstream airplay, acts like Link & Chain stay the course.
In March, the quartet released “Ready” a song marking their 35th anniversary. Co-produced by veteran musicians Ian “Beezy” Coleman and Devon Bradshaw, it honors Link & Chain’s mantra to make music that is “educating, uplifting and entertaining”.
Dwight “Tah Seti” Campbell one of the group’s three original members, said “Ready” was completed despite challenges of the time.
“Due to the circumstances (Covid-19) this track was recorded and completed is four studios in four different time zones. Rhythm was record in Jamaica, lead vocal was done in Colorado, harmonies were done in Jamaica and Miami, mixed in Jamaica and mastered in California,” he disclosed.
Lead singer Paul Williams and Trevor Douglas are the other original members of Link & Chain. Oniel Griffiths recently joined the fold.
Campbell, Williams and Douglas are from Port Maria, a coastal town in St. Mary parish, Jamaica. Early in their career, they were associated with Lawrence “Jack Ruby” Lindo, who produced Burning Spear’s inspirational “Marcus Garvey” album.
Lindo, who died in 1989, produced “New Day”, Link & Chain’s first album which was released by RAS Records. Their second album, “S.T.O.P., was produced by Philip “Fatis” Burrell.
Their last major project was “Fix The Roof”, an EP released in 2015 by Link & Chain Music.
