It’s been seven years since sibling duo 2 Of A Kind released From The Roots, their second album. During the interim, Shane and Shawn Stephens focused on academics, but still maintained ties to music.
They returned to the scene in June with She’s Bad, a six-song EP, distributed by Zojak World Wide. It is driven by the funky title track which is a blend of reggae and Afrobeats.
Shawn, younger of the brothers, believes the break did them well as their writing skills have developed.
“It really enhanced us as persons and songwriters, ‘cause for one you are improving people skills, (develop) wider vocabulary and so on. Things you can use to better compose and deliver the music,” he said.
Though She’s Bad is the lead song from the EP, it is another single that hits close home for the dreadlocked artists.
“Kudos Mama is inspired by our own mother Auntie Gwen. Every lyric inna di song a facts. We always want do a song that really conveys the story,” said Shane.
Love With Meaning, Return Natural, Water Pompi and One Reason are the other songs on She’s Bad.
The Stephens brothers are originally from St. Thomas, a rural parish in eastern Jamaica. South Florida residents for several years, their first album, Nubian Stars, was released in 2004.
