Being under Covid-19 lockdown has inspired many a dancehall song. One of the latest is Iyara’s Yaadman Up Inna Farrin.
The deejay was in the United States for an extended period last year due to the pandemic. It prompted family and friends to ask the obvious: ‘When are you going home’?
“This was my answer, ‘Yaadman Up Inna Farrin’. An’ I jus turn it into a song after saying it over and over,” Iyara explained.
He said visiting the US over the years opened his eyes to the resilience of Jamaicans living overseas. Many have more than one job and enjoy a lifestyle they would never dream of back home.
That is also an ingredient in Yaadman Up Inna Farrin.
“The message behind the song is: change is growth, use up the hustling skills that we learn in the streets of Jamaica to create a better life for you and your family,” said Iyara.
Originally from rural Portland parish in eastern Jamaica, Iyara came to prominence as a member of Bounty Killer’s Alliance camp. While there, he did songs like Sicka Dan Flu and Tepp Inna Di Road.
He left the Alliance two years ago.
Since then, he has done songs such as Good Up. Yaadman Up Inna Farrin, produced by Bellevue Entertainment Production, is a nod to his compatriots abroad who are oftentimes stereotyped as violent gangsters.
