In the age of digital dancehall beats, it’s hard to find a producer who favors an old-fashioned drum-and-bass sound. Enter Jason “Jahson” Bromfield who released his first project in August.
It’s called the Open Doors ‘riddim’ and it has 13 songs by a number of established roots acts including Everton Blender, Luciano, Anthony B and Jahmali.

The Open Doors was released one year after Bromfield, a veteran studio engineer, launched his recording studio of the same name in Orlando, Florida. He and Tony Blair created the mid-tempo beat which features saxophonist Dean Fraser, guitarist Winston “Bo Pee” Bowen, bassist Donald “Danny Bassie” Dennis and keyboardist Paul “Wrongmove” Crosdale of The Firehouse Crew and Kirk Bennett on drums.
“There will always be a place for roots-reggae rhythms! Our ancestors planted the seed for roots-reggae, men like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Sugar Minott, and the great Bunny Wailer,” said Bromfield, who is also co-executive producer of the project with his wife, Lola Anderson.

Everton Blender

Interestingly, he was lead engineer for Star Trail Records in the 1990’s when Everton Blender and Anthony B were that label’s main acts. Blender’s song on the Open Doors is Going Down while Anthony B does Born to Love.
Luciano contributes Whatever You Want.
With his production career up and running, Bromfield looks forward to releasing more songs.
“I have adequate time to be creative at mastering my craft. There is nothing more satisfying than to unlock the doors, turn on the lights, and create great music,” he said.
