Clive Hudson

The family of broadcaster Clive Hudson, determined to preserve his legacy, plan to stage an annual event in his honor starting next year.

Hudson, who died in May at age 73, would have celebrated his birthday today (October 1).

Dana Hudson, one of his seven children, said there is no set date or focus for the event as yet, but it will reflect her father’s passion.

“He was a great man, loved his culture and really devoted a lot of his life to it. He deserves to be recognized along with his peers,” she said.

Hudson, who was originally from east Kingston, migrated to the United States in 1968 and got involved in broadcasting 11 years later after graduating from the New York School of Announcing and Speech.

For 20 years, he was a stalwart at WNWK, a leading Caribbean radio station in the tri-state area. While there, he hosted The Clive Hudson Reggae Affair

His colleagues at that station included Earl “Rootsman” Chin and Clinton Lindsay.

Clive Hudson accepting his honor

Two years ago, Hudson was among several New York-based broadcasters honored at the Merritone Memorial Fun Day in Long Island, New York.

In 2004, he launched The Clive Hudson Reggae Show at www.clivehudsonreggae.com and on Facebook Live.
