The Unity New Testament Church of God in Lauderdale Lakes has special meaning for Derrick Scott. Since he got baptized in the 1990s and gave his life to God, he has ‘fellowshipped’ there.
It’s also where he does the Gospel Mission Concert, which hosts its sixth staging on November 13.
Last year’s show was a virtual affair due to Covid-19. With Church members showing strong support for protocols to prevent spread of the virus, things are back on track for the popular show’s return.
Gospel Mission was first held in 2015 when Scott launched his album, Preacher Nowadays. He received such rapturous support from the congregation, that it became a calendar event.
Scott is from rural St. Catherine parish in Jamaica. Younger brother of singer Freddie McKay, he started his career in the 1980s as a secular singer before his conversion to Christianity a decade later.
He has released four albums to date. The fourth, Mission Ablaze, captured him in concert at the 2018 Gospel Mission.
