A 25-year veteran of the music business, Andrew Powell has done the rounds as pitchman, producer and artist. According to the Florida-based Jamaican, “Mi do di whole nine yards.”
Powell is head of Worl Blast Production, a company he launched eight years ago to cover his various projects.

He is currently wearing his promotion and producer’s hats with songs from upcoming dancehall acts Street Gena (Psychotic) and One Sparks (Nat Cole).
Powell, who has helped promote songs by heavy-hitters such as I-Octane, Ky-Mani Marley and Gyptian, says breaking a song is tough.
“The crowd is hard to please. Yuh might put out a good song but di audience don’t like it. Sometimes a man hear di song today and don’t hear it again for di next month,” he explained. “If yuh don’t have di resources to bus’ di song, it’s tough.”

Born in West Kingston, Powell has stepped up his company’s profile this year. In addition to Street Gena and One Sparks, he has produced songs by Sizzla and Teflon. He wants Worl Blast Production to emulate some of the great Jamaican music labels, like Studio One, Channel One and Penthouse.
“I not only want to build a team of artists, I want to build a successful camp,” he said. Powell is familiar with the challenges artists face. As deejay Worl Blast, he has released songs such as Old Time Something and Do di Do.
